My Top 5: Anne Hathaway Movies

Anne Hathaway is one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood, acting since 1999 and more than 52 credits under her belt, I thought I would list my Top 5 performances of hers that I highly recommend you give a watch.

Number 5

The Devil Wears Prada

One of her biggest film, The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2006 starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt. Hathaway plays journalist Andy who gains a job at a large and popular fashion magazine as assistant to the chief editor. She known to be scary and difficult. Andy is a real fish out of water who looses her way and lets her job consume her life. Hathaway does a brilliant job portraying the characters development. The character goes full circle and we really feel for her.  My favourite scene is right after Andy has her makeover and literally silences all of the people around her who think they are better than her and proves that she’s here to stay.

Number 4

Ella Enchanted

Now this is a classic film from my childhood and the first one I remember Hathaway starring in. Released in 2004 the film is set in a fairytale type land. Ella is in the Cinderella role however this time she is cursed to do everything she is told no matter how literal. She sets off on an adventure to find her fairy godmother in order for her to reverse the curse. The film is fun for all the family and even has a couple of musical numbers, (Including a version of Queens Somebody to Love). My favourite scene is when Ella first meets Slannen, you get to see a glimpse of just how literal her curse is but also how kind and caring she is for the fairytale creatures unlike most of the humans that she has been surrounded by.

Number 3

The Princesses Diaries 2

Now in many cases the sequel is better at than the original and this case is no exception. Hathaway plays Mia Thermopolis, who we follow now in Genovia preparing to become Queen. She is told that she must marry in order to be crowned Queen, although she opposes there seems to be no other way and she is set up. She also must deal with Nicholas another rival after the throne. Their hatred soon turns to love, which is one thing I love about this film. As well as how much of a brilliant and inspiring character and Queen Mia is. My favourite scene is when Mia stops in the middle of a parade because she sees a young girl being picked on, she makes sure she’s okay then when she finds out the children are orphans she gives them all crowns and includes them in the parade really showing the kind of queen she is going to be.

Number 2

Love & Other Drugs

One of her lesser know films is Love and Other Drugs. Hathaway stars as Maggie, who meets her romantic interest Jake Gyllenhaal Jamies a pharmaceutical sales representative who stands in on one of her doctors appointments as she suffers from early onset Parkinson’s disease.  Hathaway deals with the heavy topic so well which can be difficult for an actor to convey. My favourite scene is the grand declaration of love scene at the end, it is another way we can see Hathaway convey her emotion through her acting and really connect with the character

Number 1

One Day

This film follows two friends who meet just as the graduate university. Hathaway plays Emma, an organised, smart and strong headed woman, who although knows what she wants struggles to gain success in her life. Dexter played by Jim Sturgess is the opposite, he is loud, reckless and without trying success comes to him easily. We see them on the same day every year that marks the date that they met and where the are in their lives. Hathaway is brilliant in the role and really works well with Sturgess’ character and she kept up a pretty amazing English accent for the whole film, something that can make or break an actors performance. My favourite scene is actually the end scene, where we get a quick glimpse and what could have been and how Emma and Dexter first properly became friends.
