Top 5 Han Solo Moments

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a huge Star Wars fan. I just recently rewatched the original trilogy and was discussing favourite characters with my family. This then gave me the idea to do a slightly different ‘Top 5’, so today I’ll be counting down my Top 5 Han Solo moments. If you haven’t seen the original trilogy or The Force Awakens then I would advise you to do so before reading this as there will be spoilers.

Number 5

“I Know”

In at Number 5 is probably one of the most quoted Han Solo quotes out there. It is from The Empire Strikes Back. Han has been trying to get Leia to admit her feelings for him throughout this whole film, but now they are in Cloud City, having just been betrayed by Lando and Han about to be frozen in carbonite and taken to Jabba the Hut. Han says goodbye to Chewbacca and him and Leia share a kiss before he is pulled away by the stormtroopers, Leia then says “I love you” in which he replies “I know”. It soon became one of the most iconic lines from the film. What makes it even better is that Harrison Ford was suppose to say “ I love you too” then it was changed to “Just remember that cause I’ll be back” but Ford imporvised it on the day of the shoot and changed it to “ I know” which was not only completely in character but just a brilliant way to end Hans performance in the film.

Number 4

“Luke, we’re gonna have company”

My next choice takes us back to the first film released in the Star Wars saga. Luke and Han are disguised as stormtroopers headed to break Leia from her cell. They pretend that Chewbacca is a prisoner that has gotten loose and soon a shoot out takes place, wiping out all the guards in their way. Luke then rushes to Leia’s cell to break her out leaving Han to answer the higher staff who have called as they noticed the commotion. Han then nervously answers and is clearly rambling a load of rubbish to try and avoid any one else coming up. I particularly love this moment as not only is it very comedic but also shows another side to the up until now suave and cooler than everyone else, scoundrel. However when he tries to steer the conversation away and asks the person on the other side “How are you?” he then shoots the communication device stating it was a boring conversation anyway. I just think its brilliantly timed and written and mixes comedy and action incredibly well

Number 3

“Chewie, we’re home”

Now to the later films, my next choice is our first reintroduction to him after 30 plus years, in The Force Awakens. Ray, Finn and BB8 are hidden in The Millennium Falcon and we are waiting to see who is about the storm the ship. The door flys open and we are greeted by the familiar (albeit slightly older) faces of our favourite rebels and the original pilots of The Falcon. The iconic music switches from suspecful to lighter and full of hope, just as we are at the sight of them. Han then stops just infront of the camera in his iconic pose and states “Chewie, We’re home” and it just makes the audience happy and nostalgic as when they first seen The Falcon again after all these years that’s how they felt, the fact that Han said it just makes it that bit better.

Number 2

The Battle of Endor

In at Number 2 is a moment from the last film of the original trilogy: Return of the Jedi, Han, Leia and Chewie are tasked with destroying a bunker that will disable a force field stopping the rebel fleet getting to the death star. This is what is now known as the battle of Endor and with the help of the Ewoks they have managed to defeat the Empire squads that have been sent for them. We hear Han say I have an idea, then it cuts to Luke and Darth Vader, however when it switches back to Endor we see a report to the Empire saying the Rebels are retreating and to send out 3 squads to help. When the Empire do this, they are met by the Ewoks and Rebels who have rained victorious and have them at gun point. Han runs to the front and just causally shrugs whilst smirking. I love this moment because its the point that really 3 films have been leading up to and the destruction of the Empire is minutes away. The reaction is also 100% in character and I think it just makes the scene that little bit better.

Number 1

Han Retruns

Finally I am taking you back to Episode 4. It is the final battle, with the Rebels trying to blow up the Death Star. The last we saw Han had his reward and him and Chewie had gone. Back to the battle, Luke is very close to completing the mission however with all of his back up gone and Darth Vader close on his tail it seems as though victory is in a galaxy far far away. That is until we see a random blast and Darth Vader states “What?” Just as the audience do. It then cuts to Han cheering, again just like the audience and the Rebels win and save the day. I think this was perfect as it showed that Han really did care and wanted to fight despite what he said a familiar pattern that will continue throughout the saga.

So there we go! Although there are plenty more moments I could have chosen those just seem to sick out to me. Let me know your thoughts in the comments and any other characters you’d like to see me make a similar post about!
