It’s safe to say this is film is great, an X-men film without Wolverine, Storm and all of the other fan favourites from previous was going to be different but Matthew Vaughn hit it out of the park just like he always does.
This film follows a young Charles Xavier, Mystique and Magneto as they come together and eventually form ‘The X-Men’ as well as Xavier’s Institute.

The film shows us the history these characters have together and how the all met. We learn that Charles and Raven (Mystique) have known each other since they were young and are more like brother and sister who have grown up together.
Charles and Erik (Magneto) meet on a mission, where Charles starts his long challenge of convincing Erik to do the right thing. We get to see them form a friendship as well as how they views differ.

As we all know I love a montage, and the one in this film where they are recruiting for the first band of X-Men is fabulous and may even have a little (or some might say Hug(h)e) cameo. All the character the main actors embody the character we know and love so well whilst also making the character their own. It is one of the cases where the casting director did incredibly.

Everyones favourite dancing heartthrob Kevin Bacon is the villain in this film and actually does a great job. He really embodies the vile, cocky character of Sebastian Shaw.

This is definitely in my top 3 of the X-Men films and one of my go to. So if you are avoiding it because it’s a prequel – give it a chance, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
