Action, comedy and a dash of Brendan Fraser, what more could you want?!

I recently got to see the masterpiece as the film gods intended, at the cinema for it’s 25th anniversary (yup its really been out that long).

So for anyone who hasn’t had a chance to check out ‘The Mummy’ (the OG we don’t talk about the 2017 remake) it follows the story of Evelyn (Evy) a clumsy but incredible librarian/Egyptologist, her brother Jonathan who is best known as a conman who gets himself and everyone around him in sticky situations and Rick O’Connell adventurer who ends up in debt to Evy and promises to escort her to the sacred ground of Hamunaptra. This is when the adventure really begins…

Just as the quest begins they are met with other adventurers after some ‘treasure’ and The Medjai who are sworn to protect the land. Anyway surprise, surprise after being told to leave they do the opposite and end up releasing a curse on the world, starting with the bringing the ten plagues back to Egypt.

The rest of the film follows our golden trio (and some friends the gain along the way) trying to reverse the damage done and save the world (spoiler they succeed).

One of the things I love most about this film is the different characters we have, first there is Rick: the suave, tough rouge who will always have a cool one -liner before saving the day. Then of course we have the comic relief Jonathan who is always getting into difficult situations and back out of them mostly by luck. Now my favourite character Evy, she is a book smart, street smart, badass who fair enough does manage to cause some unfortunate sitations but is first in line to help solve the problem. I feel she was one of the first times as an audience we seen a trio like this and the woman was just as (if not more) capable than the men at holding their own, which was amazing to see growing up.

Another thing I love about this film is the mix of action and comedy. Although some times it can be a bit intense, the mix of comedic dialogue and stunts really break up the full on scenes and keep it somewhat light hearted.

So what I’m saying is, if you haven’t seen this film or the sequel (not so much the third one) then it should go straight to the top of your ‘to watch’ list. It is available to rent or buy on amazon prime now!
