We all love a romcom let’s not lie. So I’ve decided to do you all a favour and give you another list of my top 5, Enjoy!
Number 5

Love and Other Drugs
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Jamie, pharmaceutical rep and Anne Hathaway as Maggie who suffers from Parkinsons. This 2010 film set in 1996 follows the two as they meet, form a relationship and inevitably go through their up’s and down’s. I feel as though this film is not talked about or appreciated enough. I also think these are some of Gyllenhaal and Hathaways best work. My favourite scene is the cliche and needed in every rom com, the grand declaration of love scene. Jamie chases down a bus that Maggie is on, heading for Canada. When he manages to get her to stop and talk is speech is one of the better ones and will touch your heart.
Number 4

Home Again
Another underrated but slightly newer film is 2017’s Home Again starring Reece Witherspoon. The film follows Witherspoon’s character Alice as she is going through a divorce and trying to be the best mother she can to her two young daughters. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets a younger guy on a night out celebrating her birthday, events occur and she ends up inviting him and his two best friends to live in her guest house. This film gives off very 3 men and a baby vibes, except the fact that all the men are considerably younger and none are the father to any of the children of the film. I like how you see each person slot into their place in the family and really become like part of a team.
Number 3

What Happens in Vegas
Next on my list is from 2008 and stars Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. Our two main characters are polar opposites who find themselves in Vegas with two friends. They achieve the classic cliche of getting married in Vegas. Deciding they had made a funny, drunken mistake they decided on divorce however when Diaz’s character Joy put a quarter in a slot machine and Kutcher’s character Jack pulls the leaver resulting in them winning a $3 million jackpot making divorce proceedings more difficult. The judge at their divorce hearing orders them to stay married for 6 months and will then release the money after the set time. As said before they are complete opposites so seeing them try to live together and adapt to each others lives is comical and even at times outrageous. My favourite scene is when Jack and Joy are away for a work weekend and we see them for the first time properly getting to know each other and just being themselves with no games or trickery.
Number 2

13 Going on 30
Again going back a few years to 2004 and the classic starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffolo. The film follows Jenna, who on her 13th birthday wishes that she was 30, low and behold she wakes up the next day as Jenna the 30 year old! We see her learn who she is at 30 and where she’s at. We see her reconnect with old friends and try to adapt to life as a 30 year old in 2004 rather than a teenager in the 80s. The film is wacky but so much fun as well as an easy watch. My favourite scene is the thriller scene its fun and you won’t be able to resist tapping your toes alone with the music.
Number 1

50 First Dates
In at Number 1 is another 2004 classic. This time starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. It is the second of the Sandler/Barrymore trilogy. Sandler plays Henry and womanising veterinarian who doesn’t want to settle down, that is until he meets Lucy at a cafe. They have a classic meet cute over breakfast at a diner and kind of plan to see each other the next day. However when they do see each other Lucy has no idea who Henry is and doesn’t want anything to do with him. We learn that Lucy and her father were in a car accident a few years before and Lucy has short term memory loss thinking she is living the same day over. We get to see Henry still pursue Lucy and have them meet everyday. Eventually it progresses to them dating and we see their relationship blossom. I love this film as its not only a rom com but its also very emotional and will have you smile and crying throughout. My favourite scene is when Henry is singing a song he wrote for Lucy. They both just seem so happy and content with each other and its just so wholesome.
