One of the most famous films of the 80s we follow best friends and pilot duo Goose and Maverick as they are chosen to attend the Navy’s top pilot school, best known as Top Gun. Maverick is known for being reckless and dangerous, something that has gotten him in many situations and may go too far.

One of the first and most prominent points of this film that I think should be noted first is Goose and Mavericks friendship. Straight from the off you can see the immense chemistry the pair share, both working so well together when on duty and knowing how to have fun when off duty. They seem more like brothers the way they have each others back, as well as how they tease and joke with each other.

At first glance this film does have the potential to be boring and uninteresting but its done so well that it has the perfect blend of action, romance, drama and comedy. Something many films aim for but fall just short off. Luckily Top Gun isn’t one of them.

I also have to mention the incredible soundtrack, it’s hard to find someone who hasn’t heard of Danger Zone or Take My Breath Away. The Top Gun Anthem also has the same feeling as the Pirates of the Caribbean theme and you feel like you can do anything when its playing. There are also a couple of classics that our character play like Great Balls of Fire or that iconic pick up scene accompanied by You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling

The cast is another strong point, obviously starring a 24 year old Tom Cruise this is not only one of his first big films but also one his best known. I think he does a brilliant job at portraying Maverick through all of his highs and incredible lows. Even though he can be smug and arrogant he’s a loveable character we route for. Along side him stars Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Meg Ryan,Tom Skerritt and Val Kilmer just to name a few.

If you haven’t seen this classic then I would highly recommend and fair warning now it will definitely play with your emotions. It is also safe to say I’m very excited for its long awaited sequel due to be realised July of this year!
