Top 5 Sunday Films

Theres nothing better than relaxing after a long week, grabbing a cup of tea and sticking on a film. Now usually you want one that’s a fairly easy watch but nothing that’ll bore you to sleep. So here is my list of Top 5 Sunday Films.

Number 5

Mystic Pizza

This film starring Julia Roberts, Annabeth Gish and Lili Taylor follows 3 girls going about their daily life in their small hometown. Kat, Daisy and Jojo all work at Mystic Pizza. Kat and Daisy are sisters but to say they’re polar opposites is an understatement. Kat has gained a partial scholarship to Yale and works 3 jobs in order to help pay for her education. Daisy on the other hand wants to get out of the town as soon as possible but until then plans to live her life and have as much fun as she can. Jojo is dealing with her complicated relationship after she fainted at the alter due to cold feet. Each girl deals with love. Kat first (and confusing) love, Daisy new love and Jojo deals more with commitment than love. My favourite scene is when Jojo comes in to tell them all about her breakup and how they all just listen and help her I think its ver apt with the film and shows how much they all care for each other.

Number 4

Crazy Stupid Love

This 2011 Romcom follows multiple stories. Our main character Cal played by Steve Carell is told that his wife Emily played by Julianne Moore has cheated on him with a co worker and would like a divorce. He moves into his own apartment and begins to go to a bar in which he talks constantly about his divorce, catching the attention of Ryan Goslings character womaniser Jacob. He tells Cal he’s going to help him, reinvent himself and get back on the market. Although resistant at first Cal agrees and a full Cinderella glow up ensues. Meanwhile Jacob has also met Hannah, who changes his way and he quickly finds himself falling for her. Now I definitely haven’t done the film justice with this description but as I’m doing my best not to spoil it completely for you this’ll have to do. My favourite scene when Jacob and Hannah first meet and despite his charm and effort she’s shows that she’s not interested. It really shows the contrast in their characters and how well the bounce off of each other.

Number 3

Grease

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You can’t beat a good musical and this case is no exception. Now I don’t know whether it’s because its one of my favourites so I’m slightly biased but singing along to Summer Nights and dancing away to Grease Lightening is a highlight of my Sunday film session. If anyone isn’t familiar with the iconic storyline, I’ll give you a quick run down. Sandy and Danny meet at a beach during Summer break, Sandy is from Australia and is only visiting for the Summer. They have a Summer romance and then says their goodbyes as they’ll never see each other again. Cut to the first day of their senior year at Rydell High. Danny and his group the T-birds reunite and a new student is introduced to the school who turns out to be Sandy and that’s all I’ll leave you with. My favourite scene is probably any of the musical numbers because their all so catchy and there’s no way you’ll still be in your seat by the end of it.

Number 2

50 First Dates

This 2004 classic is the second film in the Adam Sandler/ Drew Barrymore Romcom trilogy. Set in Hawaii, Sandler plays ladies man Henry Roth who is scared of commitment. He doesn’t think he’ll ever settle down until he meets Lucy played by Barrrymore who turns out to be the woman of his dreams. However it turns out Lucy suffers from short term memory loss and has been reliving the same day for over a year. The film will make you laugh and break you heart in the process, in classic Sandler style. My favourite scene is the forgetful Lucy song, as you can see how happy they both are and it really makes your heart swell.

Number 1

Set it up

This is the newest film on this list and one that I think is highly underrated. It stars Zoe Deutch and Glen Powell as two under paid and over worked personal assistants for their workaholic bosses. They decide to play matchmaker and get them together in order to have their schedules eased slightly. I personally love this film and find myself popping it on anytime I need a go to. Our two leads are so similar yet so different in many ways and compliment each other well. My favourite scene is just before the baseball game and you can really see the chemistry between them and how they bounce off of each-other.
