As we know the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the biggest franchises not only of Disney but in all media. One of my first posts on this site was my Top 5 Marvel films and as the franchise is so large I thought I’d do another one, incase you need something to watch throughout the week.
Number 5

Ant-Man
The 2015 hit follows Paul Rudd as Scott Lang who has just been released from prison, trying to get his life back together which is proving increasingly difficult. He finds himself in a situation in which he burgles a home, gaining a supersuit. He is however caught when trying to put it back and is trained by scientist Dr Hank Pym and his daughter Hope. The film is again a mix of action and comedy. We find ourselves feeling pity for Scott many times throughout the film whether it be he is struggling to maintain a job or trying to see his daughter from his recently failed marriage. It was also great to see the a strong and confident female character in Hope that I feel is very important to be portrayed in film and show that anyone can be a hero. (This is also portrayed even more so in the sequel Ant man and the Wasp but for the sake of this list I prefer the first one, even though the second is also very good). My favourite scene is Scotts training scene, we learn about each character, including what happened to Hopes mother or better what Hank is trying to convince Hope that happened, we also learn about the suit, their plan and how everything works.
Number 4

Guardians of the Galaxy
In 2014, we were introduced to the misfits that are the Guardians of the Galaxy. Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Vin Diesel. We get to see how they live their separate and unusual lives and how they come together, all of them after the same thing- the orb. Peter Quill or Starlord played by Christ Pratt is a human who was taken from earth by aliens. Once he acquires the orb a grand man hunt take place lead by Ronan the Accuser, to find Quill and gain the Orb. This is where Gamora, Rocket the Racoon and Groot all meet each other, however they get arrested and sent to prison, this is also where they meet Drax, completing their team, they make an escape and aim to get the orb before Ronan can and destroy the Galaxy. The film is full of quirky and crude moments and remarks, I like how it is a team of misfits who have no intention on being heroes that we follow and end up loving even though they all clearly have their flaws. My favourite scene is at the final battle as not only is it the first time a hero challenges a villain to a dance battle, and how they have reactions in the situation that anyone who has been thrust into the role would as well.
Number 1

Iron Man
Now taking it back to 2008 where it all began, Robert Downey Jr is Tony Stark a selfish, self centred billionaire and head of Stark Industries. During one of his business trips he is held captive in a cave in Afghanistan and with the help of scientist Yisen who is also being held captive, he creates a suit of armour that would later be known as “Mark 1”. The film follows Stark as he adjusts back to normal life as well as how he goes on to create more advancements in the suit and become Iron Man. This film is a great introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I feel that Tony Stark/ Robert Downey Jr is a great godfather for the franchise. My favourite scene is when Tony asks Pepper to help him change his arc reactor, we can see how much he trusts her and how contrasting their demeanour’s are and how they work so well together.
Number 2

Captain America: The First Avenger
Even though Iron Man was the first Avenger we were introduced too, chronologically Captain America is in fact the first Avenger. Set during World War 2, the audience follow Steve Rogers a young man desperate to join the army and help fight for his country, however due to suffering a plethora of health conditions he has been turned away multiple times, even forging documents in hope to make the cut. However during yet another of his attempts to join the fight he is greeted by Dr Abraham Erskine, a scientists who has been tasked with creating a super solider, however it was important he found someone who was worthy and pure of heart, it is very evident that Steve was the correct candidate. We see Steve go through his transformation and becoming the Captain America. Overall the film is brilliant case if the underdog coming out on top. My favourite scene is when Steve is first transformed and has to chase a hydra agent. We see he really has no idea what he is doing but is determined to fix it and catch the agent no matter what.
Number 1

Avengers Assemble
In at number 1 is the first film in which we see all of the Avengers together. The Avengers consist of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, The Hulk and Hawkeye. Lead by Nick Fury and Maria Hill. We get to see them all come together and be introduced, as well as seeing the similarities and differences within the team. Having already been introduced to Iron Man, Captain America and Thor in their separate films, we get introduced to Black Widow and Hawkeye as well as this being the first film Mark Ruffalo appears as The Hulk. It is a good introduction to some new and incredibly important heroes. My favourite scene is during the battle of New York when the team is getting ready to fight and are in a circular stance. The camera pans around each member and the audience can’t help but smile with victory at the power the team holds together.
