Now lets be honest we all love a good Rom-Com, and let’s also be honest there are plenty to choose from so I thought I’d list a few for you.
Number 5

The Proposal
The clue is in the title, Sandra Bullock plays Margaret a pushy rather intense boss and Ryan Reynolds is Andrew the unfortunate soul who is her personal assistant. When Margaret is at risk of being deported back to Canada, in the moment she announces to everyones surprise including her that Andrew and her are engaged. In order to make their relationship believable Margaret accompanies Andrew on a visit home for his grandmothers birthday where they must keep the charade up and convince everyone their love is real. The main arch of this film is character development, both of our characters go through great change, whether it’s Margaret adapting to life in a tiny town and relying on someone other than herself and Andrew who has not been home in years, gets use to being home again, getting to know Margaret better and deals with issue he has with his father. My favourite scene has to be the infamous Betty White and Sandra Bullocks chanting in the woods scene, there really isn’t much I could say about to do it justice so ill just let it speak for itself.
Number 4

Overboard
Now going back to a 1987 classic, starring real life couple Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn. Russel plays struggling dad of four Dean who is a carpenter, tasked with making a brand new walk in wardrobe for rich, snobby, portentous Joanne, who treats everyone as though they are beneath her, she refuses to pay Dean for his work and takes his tools. Rightfully annoyed Dean storms off only to see on the television a couple of days later as an amnesia patient after she falls overboard. Dean then goes to the hospital and pretends she’s his wife, creating this whole life for her and convincing her she is the mother of his children. Initially she does not fit in and is convinced she doesn’t belong (which she doesn’t) however as the film goes on she becomes more like one of the family. This film is an iconic piece of history and you can really see Russel and Hawn’s real relationship shine through and you really begin to route for the couple and the family. My favourite scene is when Dean and “Annie” go out for her “Birthday” and they have a heart to heart outside the pub and you really see them love each other
Number 3

The Wedding Singer
The first of the Adam Sandler/ Drew Barrymore trilogy, The Wedding Singer, funnily enough is all about weddings. Sandler plays Robbie heart the local famous wedding singer, always there to save the day and loved by all, he meets waitress Julia who he quickly be friends. They are both set to be married to separate people, Robbie’s wedding days away. However when he is left at the alter his life begins to fall apart, the only thing helping him is Julia who has given him the role as assistant wedding planner as he knows so much about weddings, although reluctant he helps her and they soon become very close. We see Robbie struggle with his feelings for Julia as well as dealing with her fiancé who over all is just a horrible person who thinks he the best thing since sliced bread. The chemistry Sandler and Barrymore have is evident and vital for the roles they both play so well. My favourite scene is without a doubt the aeroplane scene, this is another one that you’ll just have to watch because I won’t do it justice and its up there with one of my favourites scenes ever.
Number 2

Little Italy
This newer film is another take on modern day Romeo and Juliet. Starring Emma Robert and Hayden Christensen as Nikki and Leo. The two grew up together as their fathers were best friends and business partners, owning the most popular pizza place in Little Italy. However after a mysterious argument, they end their partnership and open rivalry pizza shops right next door to each other. Nikki then moves to London to train as a chef with Leo staying in Little Italy working in his father shop. Nikki however has to return to sort her visa and is propelled back into the life she so desperately tried to get out of, stumbling into Leo on the way. This film is fun, heart warming and easy to watch. You are constantly routing for the main couple even though their love is forbidden. The secondary characters are also just brilliant and are perfectly cast in my opinion. My favourite scene is the montage of Nikki and Leo, having a day together and just having fun it really is a turning point in their relationship and shows how right they are for each other despite what they’re families might say about it.
Number 1

What’s Your Number
In at number 1 on my list is a sort of hidden gem starring Anna Farris and Chris Evans. Farris plays Ally a woman who looks back at her list of 20 ex boyfriends and wonders if maybe one of them was her prince charming and goes about looking them up. However when she struggles she strikes up a deal with her neighbour Collin, a womaniser who in exchange for helping Ally gets to hide out in her apartment until the women he has brought home the night previous leaves his apartment. The film is full of funny and quirky moments as well as a star studded cast including Anthony Mackie, Chris Pratt, Martin Freeman, Andy Samberg and that just the tip of the iceberg. Farris’ and Evans’ chemistry is brilliant and their relationship in the film works so well together that you are routing for them straight away. My favourite scene is the three times a lady scene, in which Ally has been let down again, when Collin is consoling her, he then says she 20 times a lady and launches into his own rendition of 3 times a lady by Lionel Ritchie. Ally gets up and starts dancing and its just so nice how much fun they can have together.
