Top 5 Star Wars Films

Since 1977 fan have been following stories from a galaxy far far away, battle the empire and new order with the Rebels and The Resistance. With multiple films in the saga and plenty of television shows to go along side it thought I would give my top 5 of the saga.

Number 5

Rogue One

Released in 2016, Rogue One ends minutes before A New Hope starts. It follows the story of the Rebels who gained the Death Star plans for the Rebels. We are introduced to the team and show how they all meet. As well as the adventure they go on to gain the vital information that they need. To be honest when I first heard the idea of the film, I didn’t think it was necessary and wasn’t sure how they were going to do it, however the narrative they use along with the multiple and diverse characters on the team all bring something different and vital to the team. I like how they all come from different backgrounds and only one of them (Cassian) actually begin as part of the Rebels and the other members of the team are gained as the film goes on. It just shows how much everyone whether part of the Rebels or not want the Empire defeated. My favourite scene is when Jynn receives the hologram message from her father, it really is a turning point for Jynn in the film and show that she wasn’t just abandoned but it was actually to help her. Released in 2016, Rogue One ends minutes before A New Hope starts. Number 4

Revenge of the Sith

The third film of the prequel trilogy. Revenge of the Sith finally how Darth Vader came to be. At the beginning of the film we find out that Padamè Amadala, who is now married to Anakin Skywalker is pregnant. As the film goes on Anakin becomes increasingly worried due to nightmares he keeps getting about Padamè being in danger. He goes to Yoda who warns him trying to control the future could lead to terrible things, unhappy with this impressionable Anakin act as a double agent between the Jedi Council and Emperor Palpatine who tells him there is something that can be done to help Padamè. Throughout the film we see Anakin toil with his inner emotions. One of the things I like most about the film is how the film links to the original trilogy nicely in the end. Any questions the audience have is answered and it really makes us understand some of the characters decisions better. My favourite scene has to be Obi- Wan and Anakins battle at the end as you can see the last bits of Anakin Skywalker being drained away and Obi -wan trying his best to get his brother back. The lightsaber battle is also the longest in the saga keeping the audience hooked until the very end

Number 3

The Empire Strikes Back

Next up is arguably the most popular Star Wars film to date. It is the greatly anticipated sequel from the original A New Hope. This film is intense from the start with Luke getting attacked by a  Wampa, Han and Leia’s relationship beginning, the introduction of Yoda and Lando Calrissian and not to mention two of the biggest cliff hangers in cinematic history. Although Luke and Han and Leia spend alot of their time separated during the film, both of the storylines are incredibly attention grabbing. We get to see Luke advance on his Jedi Training with Yoda, but when his friends are in need he knows he must go to them and help. My favourite scene is Han and Leia’s argument at the beginning as it shows their relationship perfectly and how similar they are whilst being complete opposites at the same time.

Number 2

Solo: A Star Wars Story

One of the newest films released in the Star Wars Saga, Solo shows the audience of Han’s life before he joined the resistance, we get to see key moments in Han’s life. We see the moment he meets Chewie, gains the Millennium Falcon, meets Lando and even when he get his name. The film follows him as he begins life as a smuggler leading all the way up to the infamous Kessel Run, which he does in 12 parsecs (if you round down). The audience is also introduced to Han’s first love Qi’ra, who he is separated from when he is younger and spends many years trying all he can to get back to her. Now the cast of this film is just brilliant, taking on the iconic role of Han is played by Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover takes on the role of Lando and Emilia Clarke is leading lady as Qi’ra. The support cast is also full of talent including Woody Harelson, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany and Phoebe Waller – Bridge. There are many scenes I love in this film but my favourite is when Han first sees the Millennium Falcon, Lando announces her and then the iconic Star Wars score plays in the background as Han sees the ship for the first time, it is a key character moment for him and im glad it was given the moment it deserves.

Number 1

A New Hope

Now I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you can beat the originals, A New Hope has and always will be my favourite Star Wars film. It’s where it all began, we meet iconic characters and are introduced the ways of the force. From the start the storyline is strong and as each character is introduced they all have their individual roles in the film and fit in incredibly well, whether is Leia being the sassy queen she is, Luke being the naive hero or Han being the reluctant team member coming through when he is really needed. There is not too much happening that it is overwhelming or hard to understand but enough to keep the audience entertained. I think that is perfect for a first in the series of films as it is easily followed and leaves room for a sequel and I think its save to say it did. My favourite scene is a scene closer to the end of the film and just when we feel everything is going to go wrong for our hero, Han shows up at the right time and helps to save the day.
