Top 5 Classic Christmas Films

Merry Christmas Eve Everyone! Now we all love a good Christmas film so I figured I would give you a list if my top 5 classic Christmas films, that you can pop on today and enjoy!

Number 5

The Santa Clause

Released in 1994, the film follows Tim Allen, a skeptic who doesn’t believe in Santa being thrown head first into the role after the original St Nick takes an unfortunate tumble from his roof. Scott then must take it into his own hands and deliver the rest of the presents. He thinks his work in done until he is taken to the North Pole where it is revealed he now must take on the role full time. He declines and leaves, but it soon becomes clear, it won’t be that easy. I love when films take their own spin on Santa and how he and his workshop works. The film also has 2 sequels that I would highly recommend. My favourite scene is when he is first being shown around the workshop as I think it’s fascinating and so clever.

Number 4

Home Alone

Now its very difficult to find someone who hasn’t the film where Macaulay Culkin is forgotten by his family, and stop his family home being robbed. Its really a classic that has to be watched every year, whether it Kevin using mannequins to make it seem like his family is having a party, or using audio from a film to get his pizza for free, overall it is iconic and just really clever. My favourite scene has to be the big showdown at the end and we can see all the trap Kevin has set up and show how Harry and Marv fall for them every time.

Number 3

Miracle on 34th Street

Another from 1994 is Miracle on 34th Street, in which the real Santa Clause, ends up in New York and gets a job at a large toy shop, however when he claims to be the real macoy and no one believes him, the job is given to a lawyer and little girl to convince the world. One of my favourite thing is the progression of Susan’s character who is very mature for her age and doesn’t believe in Santa, we see how she goes from being a cynic to his biggest supporter and really is the definition of Christmas Magic. My favourite scene is when Susan and Santa first meet. I like how its such a different conversation, she is very proper and talks about the business works, and he manages to reply and have a proper conversation with her.

Number 2

Deck The Halls

Another hit from 2006, staring Danny Devito and Matthew Broderick. We follow the story of a families who normal life is interrupted when a loud and crazy family move in across the street. Brokerick’s character Steve, enjoys a traditional Christmas and has everything planned down to a tee. So when there new neighbour Buddy keeps causing havoc and some how the plans don’t go as smoothly as one would hope. Things escalate and get competitive when both men try to make the exterior of these house more festive than the other and soon it becomes Buddy’s mission to use enough lights to make his house be seen from space. It really is just a feel good comedy with some very well placed slapstick comedy. My favourite scene has to be when Steve is in a sleigh and the horses pulling it won’t listen and as you can guess chaos ensues.

Number 1

Elf

It’s very difficult to find someone who hasn’t seen the 2003 classic starring Will Ferrell. He plays Buddy the elf, a human who grew up in Santa’s work shop thinking he’s an elf. When he finds out that he is in fact human, he goes on an adventure to New York City to find his father who didn’t know he was born after his birth mother gave him up for adoption. We see him try to reconnect with his father as well as try to live life like a normal human, he also meets Zoey Deschannel’s character Jovie and they form a romance. Its very hard for me to pick my favourite scene but one that stands out is when Buddy first arrives in New York City and how he acts when he first see things he never had in the north pole, like revolving doors and really just common life in New York
