Top 5 Christmas Rom Coms

Red Christmas Ornaments on Wood Background and defocused lights. Spruce Tree branch on the left and right.

We all know there are more Christmas movies out there than we can count. I also know that solely Christmas films aren’t everyones cup of tea so I thought I would make a list of Christmas Rom-Coms for people who want to get into the Christmas spirit without having a Christmas overload.

Number 5

Christmas With The Coopers [DVD]: Amazon.co.uk: John Goodman, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Alan Arkin, Olivia Wilde, Ed Helms, Marisa Tomei, June Squibb, Dan Amboyer, Jake Lacy, Elliot Davis, Jessie Nelson, John Goodman,

Christmas with the Coopers

This star-studded film focuses on a large family and each of their individual members as they prepare for Christmas. I feel the film really shows the true side to families at Christmas, everyone has they’re own thing going on but when it comes to the big day everyone comes together and for a brief moment forgets their problems. I feel like there are so many characters it makes it easy for audiences to find someone they can relate to. There are some hidden plots twists that go along with the star studded cast of John Goodman, Diane Keaton and Ed Helms. This is a film you’ll want on your list. My favourite scene has to be when the whole family is sitting in the living room singing carols, its impossible not to smile at the heart warming sight.

Number 4

A Christmas Prince

Next up is a Netflix original released in 2017. It follows the story of Amber an American journalist who is sent to the country of Aldovia to get the big scoop on play boy Prince Richard. However once she is there she is mistaken for Richard’s sisters Princess Emily’s school tutor. She goes along with it and has to pretend to be someone she’s not. I’m not going to lie this film is full of cheesy cliche’s but it also very much turns into a fairytale romance. There are also two sequels to the film if you want to check them out too! My favourite scene has to be one of Amber and Richards first conversations where he is practicing archery, they bounce off of each other well and Princess Emily’s background commentary just adds to the comedy of the scene.

Number 3

Love Actually

It wouldn’t be a Christmas rom-com list if I didn’t include this fan favourite. Whether it be the airport shots, fake carol singers or Hugh Grants dance break there are plenty of iconic moments that stick in peoples minds. The film follows ten storylines, that all link together in some way. I do think that is one reason I like it so much as when each connection is revealed it is so satisfying. The film again shows different situations that people are dealing with and hopefully people can find someone to relate to somehow. Some of my favourite storylines are Natalie and David and Jamie and Aurelia. I like how Natalie is just herself around him and the banter they have tougher. With Jamie and Aurelia I like how they can never have a conversation (as neither speak the others language) and yet still fall in love. My favourite scene has to be when David and Natalie first meet, as we can see them hit off straight away and their characters are shown as big, bold and just very down to earth

Number 2

Last Christmas

If you read my recent review, you’ll know that this quickly became one of my favourites. It follows the story of Kate who’s life is a mess, everything seems to be going downhill until she meets the mysterious Tom. We see her character transform and she seems to be a totally different person in the end. There are some incredibly heart warming scenes that make you smile as well as a little teary. Check out my full review to get a greater insight to what I think. My favourite scene has to be Kate and Toms first ‘date’.

Number 1

The Holiday

This 2006 hit starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, we follow our leading ladies who are both sick of their lives and in need of a holiday. They meet on a home swap website and switch lives for three weeks. We see how different their lives are and how the other adjusts to living literally on the other side of the world. We see Amanda taking a step back from her hectic, and full on life, living in a small cottage in a little town in England, she grows close with Iris’s brother played by Jude Law. Iris on the other hand is dealing with getting over feeling she has for a co worker who doesn’t love her back. She meets Arthur, an old film writer and helps him give a new lease of life, whilst also meeting Jack Blacks character and hitting it off with him. Overall its just a great feel good film that doesn’t focus solely on Christmas, and it’s the definition of a romantic comedy. My favourite scene is probably the last scene, we see where the characters are now and how happy they are and it is just the perfect ending to the film.
