Bohemian Rhapsody was released in November 2018 and tell the story of the well know British rock band Queen and more of the life of their lead singer Freddie Mercury.

Throughout the film we get to see the band meet, rise to fame, a closer look at Freddie Mercurys personal life and even the making of famous songs like Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You. (Yes of course not all parts of the film are accurate but we have to expect that when it comes to biopics)

One thing I loved is how the used the songs along with the montages, it was a good way to include many of their well known songs as well as move the story along. For example the used Seven Seas of Rhye when they were recording their first demo, then Killer Queen for their rise to fame and tour of the UK and Fat Bottomed Girls for when they toured the USA.

I think that Rami Malek did a fantastic job portraying Freddie. He got his characterises and persona perfect. His accent was also very impressive considering he is American. He really embodies Freddie and plays each side we see to him so well. I like the fact that they showed Freddie at his highest and lowest so we could see the range the Rami was capable of.

The supporting cast were also just as good with Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Joe Mazzello as John Deacon and Lucy Boynton as Mary Austin. I think each character was portrayed very well and we got to see some of their personalities but not as much as I would have liked. I feel like they could have made it similar to the Motlëy Crue’s film, The Dirt where each character got a proper introduction and was focused on multiple times separately throughout the film. I understand it would have made the film longer but only slightly and I doubt fans would be complaining.

My favourite scene is without a doubt the Live Aid scene. I think it is incredible that not only they could recreate the setting but also recreate the song set perfectly. Each step, each hand movement and even people in the background are all in sync and playing their part to a tee. The scene itself just gives off a sense of victory and you can’t help but smile and sing along.
Overall I would highly recommend this film, if you haven’t seen it make sure you check it out and let me know what you think.
