After 8 months I finally made a trip to the cinema and decided to go and see Pixie. A comedy, crime thriller that follows lone wolf Pixie on her journey to get out of her home town in Sligo. Along side best friends Frank and Harland’s who find themselves in a situation where they are left with a bag drugs and a dead body.

Initially I felt the story started off kind of slow, but once it hit the climax I was hooked. I feel that the use of comedy within the action was used very well and made the film that bit better.

As in any movie the characters really made the film great. Our main and titular character Pixie played by Olivia Cooke is definitely a Jack Sparrow type character, we are intrigued by her, she always seems to have a trick up her sleeve and although we think she is going to have a big character development she actually goes full circle and is in the same (in this case literally) place as she was at the beginning. However there are brief moments throughout we see a more emotional, less guarded side for her, making her character that bit more relatable and loveable.

Another way I think the writers went right was with Frank and Harland’s dynamic. Frank is very much the act before thinking type and doesn’t really take anything in life too seriously, where as Harland is more uptight, nervous and likes to have a plan, their friendship reminds me of Ferris Bueller and Cameron. They back and forth banter they have can easily bring a smile to your face and just makes the characters more real, as well as their reactions to the situation as they are just normal people and they act how any regular person would.

The soundtrack was also brilliant. As anyone knows, a soundtrack can make or break a film and in this case it made it. I feel like the songs they used and the way they used them fitted in so well with the story, made the scenes.

I also liked how they made the final shootout all in slow motion. It easily could have been overkill but it actually worked really well and made a pretty basic and short scene that bit more interesting.

Overall I would highly recommend this film if you want an easy action, I will definitely be purchasing when it gets released.
