Scene Analysis: Spiderman: Far From Home

If you read my Top 5 Marvel Movies post you’ll know that Spiderman Far from home is one of my favourites (if you didnt make sure to go check it out after you’ve read this). As well as my favourite scene being the heart to heart scene, Peter and Happy share on the plane. If you haven’t seen the film, I’d recommend you watch before reading this as, just like always there will be spoilers. I’ve linked the scene down below so make sure to follow along and let me know what your interpretations are.

In the scene, we see the aftermath of Peter after he’s realised he’s been betrayed by Mysterio and he is really at rock bottom.

It starts with Happy and zooms out to show the audience that he is stitching up a very broken and bruised Peter, who is clearly in pain (but he also says ouch so that’s a bit of a giveaway)

Happy then says “Thought you had super strength”, Peter states “Still hurts”, this has a double meaning, as obviously yes talking about his injuries but also his grief for Tony as well as the pain he’s feeling from being betrayed and putting his friends lives in danger.

Peter then looses it at Happy, which is very out of character for him, showing just how much everything is impacting him.

He then apologises straight away, showing his real character and making the audience feel for him even more because at the end of the day he’s just a teenager with a lot of responsibilities and no idea how to deal with them.

“I just really miss him” – His pent up feelings, confirming how much he is struggling without Tony

A shot of Happy, shows him agreeing with the statement, showing the impact Tony had on everyone on he knew

Peter confides in Happy, telling him how he sees Tony’s face everywhere, Happy agrees and feels sorry for Peter as he can relate to how it feels loosing Tony. He is struggling with the responsibility being placed on him, we really feel for him as they are big boots he is expected to fill

Happy says “You’re not Iron Man, you’re never going to be Iron Man” Peter looks down in defeat as if his worst fears have been confirmed and he is not worthy enough to be Spiderman let alone the next Iron Man. Happy abrupt words also take the audience aback and make us want defend Peter.

However he then states “No one could live up to Tony, not even Tony” showing that Tony had been in the same situation as Peter is right now and the reason he feels as though he is letting everyone down is because he’s trying to do the impossible of being Iron Man when he’s Spiderman

Happy explains that Tony wasn’t perfect and Peter perks up as he realises he doesn’t have to be either, that’s not why Tony picked him, he states that Tony picking Peter was the only deciosn he was sure of and that he had faith and trusted he would be able to handle this role even after he was gone.
